Synopsis: Finn wants to know what happened with Mr Schue

--

“Mr Schue?”

Lifting his head seemed like an impossible challenge, but the voice at the door was too familiar and too worried, so he forced himself to comply.

Finn was looking down on him, his backpack slung over his shoulder.

“What happened, Mr Schue?”

Words were definitely more than he could manage. But then there was the thump of a bag on the floor, and Finn was sitting next to him, leaning back against the office wall.

“You know, it might help to talk about it. I mean, it helped me when I found out that Quinn was pregnant. I’d like to help you like you helped me.”

Will shook his head, trying to clear the fog. “Don’t you know? Didn’t Quinn tell you?” The idea that half his glee club may have known his wife’s secret made him want to vomit.

“Tell me what?”

“I think I’m leaving my wife.”

Finn shook his head violently. “You can’t do that Mr Schue. Not with a baby on the way. You don’t know what it’s like to grow up without a dad.”

Will sighed. “My wife isn’t pregnant after all. She was just pretending. None of it was real.” He laughed, a terse bitter laugh which hurt as he heard it. “My marriage is a sham.”

“Oh.” Finn let out a ragged breath. “I’m so sorry.”

Will felt himself falling to the side, leaning himself up against Finn. He felt the tears come to his eyes unbidden. He felt Finn’s arm go around his shoulders, keeping him upright. He’d forgotten how nice it was to be held. Terri hadn’t even touched him in the longest time . . .

Stop it, his mind screamed. This is wrong. You shouldn’t be finding any kind of comfort in your students. Ever.

But Finn’s embrace was so warm, so . . . right. And everything else was so wrong. Surely no one would be able to blame him for turning to face his student, or for reaching up to brush his fingers across Finn’s lips.

“Uh, Mr Schue . . .” Finn’s voice is filled with apprehension, but he doesn’t pull away. “I don’t know if this is a good idea. I mean, I like you and all, but things are really weird at the moment.”

Will pushed himself up right and scooted back away from Finn, sitting up on his knees. “You’re right. I’m sorry.” He looked down at the floor for a moment before rising to his feet and holding out a hand to help Finn up. “Of course you’re right.”

They stood for a moment, just looking at each other before Finn placed a hand on Will’s shoulder. “There’ll be better moments. You’ve just got to stay strong.”

Will tried to smile, but he knew the smile was going no where near his lips. “Thank you, Finn. I’ll keep that in mind.”

“See you later, Mr Schue.”

Will waved half-heartedly at his student, watching as he walked out of the room. He wondered how long it would take for the better moments to come.
